A little break between business
I had a few hours between business appointments and decided to spend it at Flashdancers. I lived in New York for 17 years, so I am or at least was somewhat knowlegeable about the club scene. I know that they are expensive, mileage is mediocre and that the hustle factor is high. All of those are true about Flashdancers, but I really had a good time and am contemplating going back.
I entered the club about 4 pm, after happy hour but still before the cover charge starts. You enter off Broadway through glass doors overseen by a doorman and head down a long flight of stairs. The club has a nice feel and upscale look to it. As you reach the bottom of the stairs, the bar is right in front of you, to the right is a stage with two poles and there are numerous tables and chairs. I was met by a bouncer who wanted to seat me at a table. I allowed him to do so, even though my sense was telling me to sit at the bar. He then got my first drink which was $16. I tipped him $2 for the drink, never gave him anything for seating me and he seemed happy.
I also went to the men's room. It is small and has a troll during the day. There are two sinks, but he is blocking most of one. I think he was Eastern European like about 1/2 of the dancers.
They were about 10 customers in the place, 5 sitting at the bar and 5 spread out at tables across the club. There were also about 10 dancers, all being at least a 7. There was one asian, two AA, and the rest white. There were two girls dancing on the main stage, actually they were just swaying. They were standing by the poles, but not touching them and just kind of swaying back and forth. One had her top off and one did not. There was a group of three dancers who stood together and chatted the entire time I was there which was over 1 hour. There was one dancer and customer behind me, and he looked like he was getting a very passionate dance.
I was approached by what I thought was a dancer, but she actually gave massages. She started rubbing my back and asked if she could give me a massage. The cost was $20 for a song, same as a dance. I got one and she told me to unbutton my shirt. I asked why (I must be getting old) and she said so I don't choke you. She gave a decent back rub, albeit $20 for a 3-4 minute song may be a bit high.
