Made a detour to Vegas on the way to visit a client in northern Wisconsin. I haven't been to this club in a few years, so I couldn't help but stop by and see what changes have been made. I was going to swing by both Showplace and Vegas but there were hardly any cars in Showplace's lot. That being the case Vegas was my first and only stop in Darien. Arrived early afternoon and didn't leave until close to 9 PM. I can't believe how much this place has improved.
Afternoon cover was $6. Since there were a good number of cars in the lot I didn't balk at the price. Once inside I saw that nothing has really changed with the interior, just that their seemed to be a lot more electronic slot machines. I sat near the corner of the bar and ordered a Miller lite tap. The bartender informed me that it was $4.50 buy 1 get 1 happy hour until later in the night. She came back with a BIG pint of Miller Lite and gave me a tap beer token for a second free beer. Even if the girls didn't turn out to be much to look at, at least I wouldn't break the bank on drinks that night.
The crowd was all old farmer types. Not one dress shirt wearing guy in the bunch. An older white dancer, TJ, played nothing but Frank Sinatra during her set. The DJ made sure to point that fact out to the crowd. Once TJ got off stage I didn't hear Sinatra or anything close to him for the rest of the night. The next dancer up after her, a black dancer named Lola, danced to nothing but rap. The farmers seemed none to pleased with her music choice.
