sinclair's Review
I went to Silk The Show Club on a Saturday evening around 22:30. I had not visited this club since September 2012. Admission was $5 and the doorman searches you with a wand to make sure you are not carrying a weapon into the club. It is annoying, but the club does seem to attract a ghetto element at night. The layout is very simple. There is a large rectangular stage in the middle of the room with two spinning poles. Surrounding the stage are simple armless chairs on which most dancers will give you a mini lap dance when you come to tip the stage. A bar is along the back, and the remainder of the space is occupied by tables and armed chairs. The female DJ played a good mix of pop, rock, and hip hop; she kept PA talk to a minimum. The worst thing about this club is the restroom. It is small and poorly ventilated. The door to enter is about half the width of a standard door, so likely you will have to enter sideways. The clientele was a few groups of African-Americans watching the Pacers’ game, seven wiggers that looked to be 21-22 years old, a couple, and a few lone rednecks. The beer special was two domestic draft beers for $5. The beers were in small ten ounce glasses, but twenty ounces of beer for $5 is a better value than some of the other clubs in the area.
The dancer quality was a little better than I remember in the past. Of the eleven or twelve dancers working Saturday night, there were two dancers whom I’d rate 9’s. They were like oases amongst the desert of 7’s and below who made up the remainder of the Saturday night queue. It seems most of the dancers here are smokers. Silk is the only club in the area that offers $10 lap dances every day of the week. These are supposed to be only one-way contact. There are also $25 lap dances that are done in a private room where two-way contact is allowed. There is also a VIP room. I think it is something like $200 for thirty minutes. The mileage was good at the stage for a couple dollars, and this is where most of the crowd chose to spend their money. Only every now and again would someone take a dancer to the back. The two aforementioned 9’s were hard to get at because they were in high demand and had some regulars.
Silk is not in the top tier of Circle City strip clubs, but it can be a good mid tier club if it continues to have some hidden gems and keeps the thug factor down. Tip: Hang out on the smokers’ patio to build up rapport with the dancers while they are taking a break.
