Visited: Tuesday Evening

In all of my travels, the Lumberyard in Des Moines is one of my favorite clubs. So when I found myself in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday night, I made sure I stopped by. The club is on a dead end street in an industrial park. From the outside, it looks like a relatively new building with colored lighting. But when I walked in at about 10:00 on Tuesday, I seemed to have startled the girl at the desk. That should have been a sign to leave, but she told me things were hopping inside. It was a $10 cover, and I went through the door to a huge room that has some resemblance to the Des Moines location. But the comparisons stop there.

The club is very large, with multiple stages and different levels. This is probably great on a busy evening, but not this night. It was about as dead as could be. There were a few people scattered about the large room and a few dancers. One stage had a dancer most of the time, but there didn't seem to be much order to it. At one point, the dj seemed to be begging for someone to get on stage. It was two for one private dance night. Private dances are apparently $25, but on Tuesday you get two for that. At one point, the dj said all but one private room was full. I am not sure if they have two rooms or twelve, but maybe that's where everyone was. The few dancers I did see weren't very attractive, and the customers seemed more interested in going outside to smoke or watching sports on the flat screens or the huge screen against one wall.

Maybe I hit the club on a particularly bad night, but it was very disappointing and I don't see a reason to return.
