I have been coming to Atlanta 2-3 times a year for business for 15 years and have had the opportunity to visit quite a number of the clubs here (some now closed). I'm a dedicated fan of Follies, which has gotten better and better over the last 15 years, but from time to time I like to mix it up a little, especially at night because Follies is just too crowded for me after 8:00 or so. It had been at least 10 years since the last time I was in Shooter Alley, but since there were some positive reviews on TUSCL recently, I decided to give it a try. This will be a long review in order to give you a sense of whether you'd like this place, but if you're looking for salacious content, well, there was none to report. That in and of itself might tell you something.

I was there on the Tuesday before Christmas, from 9:00-10:45. Free parking, $10 cover, quick ID check (no scan), and light pat-down. Bottled water at the bar was $4.00. The club is nicely appointed, and the lighting is not nearly as dark as Follies. The music was loud, but the DJ was VERY loud – so loud that it was actually painful (especially if you were near a speaker), and conversations with the dancers were absolutely impossible while he was talking. Fortunately, he did not talk all that much. A lot of rap and hip hop music (after all, it *is* a black club) and the songs did not seem to be cut short at all. The mood was very laid back, but it was a Tuesday night, and relatively early; not sure what it would be like late on a Friday or Saturday night. There were maybe 20 or so customers, most of them black. I am white, but I was perfectly comfortable being there.

There were probably about 15 dancers, maybe more by the time I left, almost all AA, one Asian, one or two Latinas. As other reviewers have mentioned, the girls are almost all spinners – not one phat curvy girl. All of the AA girls were very light-skinned, and in fact, there were two or three I actually thought were white when I first saw them from a distance. I thought the girls were mostly in the 7-8 range (I like spinners), with one or two 9s and one who was a stone fox – a 10 in my book. Most of them were quite friendly and none of them were pushy about dances.
