Saturday night's alright at the chopper!
I've reviewed Ye Olde Axe (or "The Chopper" as some people in London call it) on here before, but it was a daytime visit (it was thoroughly good fun). I hadn't visited during the late evening for a loooong time, so I popped in when in town. The standard £5 on the door is still great value (that's not always payable during the day - this place is open from lunchtime!) and the beer prices remain reasonable - below most London pub prices. I tend to stick to the bottles as the draught can be ropey in the best of pubs and a dodgy draw of ale can spoil a night. The venue itself is a beautiful, if crumbling pub. The staff are friendly, the music is standard "naked girls" music. It's on a busy road but in a part of town where nobody would care where you're going!
I had a few dances (I can't remember the girls' names) and they were all similar. For London, the mileage was great, with plenty of groping in both directions - this isn't somewhere where you'll be unfastening your jeans though. Nothing you'd need to be ashamed of, just the sort of close-up dance that most clubs once did in London. The dances were £20 each and lasted a song or two, depending on the girl. Most of the girls are Eastern European or Brazilian. They tend to speak excellent English. I've never been ripped off in here and the pressure to buy a dance is thankfully at a sensible level. The other customers are normally either bored London workers or groups of lads out for nudity (there are several strip clubs in the vicinity).
The dances happen in a partitioned area, but in view of the 5-6 other people who are enjoying a "private" dance. I don't care about such things, but if you're hoping for a booth, you'll be disappointed.
