sinclair's Review
I visited The Hardware Store after 21:00 on a Wednesday evening. The Hardware Store is located in the small town of Clyman, which has a population of 422. It is right on the main street of the town along a railroad track. The only other business open at night is right next door, Mercer T’s Bar and Grill. This club a typical rural Wisconsin dive bar, only it has strippers--a lot of whom are ebony dancers that drive in from Milwaukee or Madison. Most of the clientele are local farmers and factory workers, but there were a couple urban guys in there as well. There was no cover charge.
A Sincweiser was $4.50. A cocktail that I bought for a dancer cost $7.50. A large island bar dominates the interior of this establishment. The stage is on the south wall of the building. It has one pole and is a little tight on space from the wall. There is a tipping counter you can sit at to tip the dancers. There is a second stage on the north side of the club that is lower to the ground, but it was not in use. A few dancers used it for practice. The VIP rooms are along the north wall and have closing doors, but the doors are kind of flimsy and won’t block out sound from the rest of the club. There is also one pool table and a cigarette vending machine inside the club.
