Monday night
Stopped by for the first time in over half a year, and I have some updates. First, the ten dollars dances are back! – sort of. One dancer quoted me two for 20 plus a tip. I told her I would pay 20 and she could decide when to stop. Despite having only danced for one month, she gave highly credible two full-song dances, and, in fact, continued into a third song when I stopped her to make sure she didn’t go over the 20 dollars (I had my heart set on another dancer and wanted to stay relatively flush).
Second, they were relatively full of dancers on this mid-November Monday. As I recall, the last time I visited on a Monday, they had about 3 or 4 dancers and few customers. This evening, the parking lot looked more like a weekend. The bar was full, and a couple of groups were on each side of the stage. They had about 10-12 dancers of all sizes and shapes and several races (about 8 whites, 2 African Americans, and 1 Latina-looking). Except for two of the larger dancers, who are not my style, I would say most of the dancers were 7-8, and my arm would not have needed to be twisted to get dances from any of them.
One odd thing was that tipping dancers on stage did not seem to get them to come talk to you. Only one or two of the dancers I tipped (out of about 6) stopped by. I ended up getting approached more by dancers I didn’t tip. Go figure.
