Sunday/Monday review
I was in San Diego and had some time to experience Tijuana albeit with a significant amount of anxiety as my guide was primarily the reviews on this web site. I will add some details which may not have been reviewed for some time for newbies like myself. To get there you can either take the blue trolley line which runs from downtown to San Ysidro, the last stop going south and the crossing point to go to Mexico. The blue trolley line runs from downtown including the gaslamp district and so represents a convenient form of transportation, it takes about 45 minutes and you can get there from the airport by taking the 922 bus. You will need to buy a (compass) card onto which you can add value including passes good for a pre-specified amount of time . Alternatively driving get off at the last exit before Mexico, and park in one of the numerous lots close to the border crossing. To get to the frequently mentioned lot behind Jack in the Box make after coming off the exit ramp then a right which will put you parallel to the tracks, the parking lot will be to your left, cross the tracks drive up a small incline then make a left and into the lot. It costs $7 per 8 hr period or fraction thereof. You pay $7 upfront and then the remainder if any when you exit. Then come down out of the lot, turn right down the incline and make a left when you hit the trolley tracks, follow the pedestrians to enter Mexico. Eventually you will go thru some turnstiles into a concrete building, customs will check your passport , you then go straight, make a right to have your carry with items if needed and then a left. After a twisty walk you will be in Mexico confronted by many hawkers asking if you want a taxi. I ignored these people, grabbed a cab, said Hong Kong and away I went. It costs $5, I routinely gave a $1 tip
The club is huge, and unique, multiple floors with a front and back entrance fronting on two parallel streets . There is a ramp in the middle connecting the two halves and a lot of the girls hang out there, advertising themselves. There are multiple ways to spent time with the dancers, 1- a dollar tip will get you a kiss or a brief caress, 2. buy drinks at $9 per for the dancer and sit in a booth- for more caressing and/or conversation and 3. dances which are $21, $54 and $90 for 15 , 30 or 60 minutes respectively and come with 6 or 10 drinks for the latter 2, not sure about the first. Dances take place in VIP booths (smaller booths at least in theory for the $21 and $54 dollar dances and larger rooms for the 60 minute session. Finally you can take a girl to the adjoining hotel ($19 for half hour plus the cost of service which is negotiated with the dancer.), or stay at the hotel ($55) for a small room with a hard bed which did not appear to be conducive to sleeping. Larger rooms are available. There are also many street girls not connected with the club on the street around the club. The club girls were nice, many quite attractive and many speak a little English, enough to get by. Many come to work for a couple of months then go back home to Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, like the US many are single moms but seen to make enough in a couple of months to support they and their families for the rest of the year.
The mesaros are constantly trying to get you to buy drinks of course but its smart to be polite and play along IMHO, a dollar tip goes a long way. One. of them (#20) speaks perfect English Of the $9 the girl gets $2 so its more profitable for them to go to the hotel, I think the going rate is $50-80.
