Melonfest

Friday August 7, 2015, was Melonfest at the Flint Déjà vu club. Saturday August 8, 2015, Melonfest was at the Lansing Déjà vu. I attended both nights so I will post this review for both clubs.

Melonfest:

Melonfest is an annual contest between six Déjà vu clubs – Toledo, OH and Flint, Saginaw, Lansing, Kalamazoo & Ypsilanti, MI. Each club has a team of 5-6 dancers. It takes place on six weekend nights spread over four weekends. Each club hosts the Melonfest on one night. The clubs keep track and tally how many dances each dancer gets. The dancers compete to see who can get the most dances, both as a team and individually. They discount their dances – most offer $10 dances, some 2/$20 and some 3/$25. A few will even go as low as $7-8. Longer VIP’s are also discounted. Unlike the normal Déjà vu operation, negotiations are allowed and encouraged.
