Dancers at This Club Need to Join LA Fitness
Went late on a recent Saturday night. Purple Orchid has the feel of a neighborhood bar (emphasis on "hood") that happens to have dancers, the polar opposite of an upscale "gentlemen's club" in attitude and appearance. The unpretentious atmosphere is a positive, but unfortunately I didn't see a single attractive dancer, most are woefully out of shape.
The place is small, which means that there is no escape when dancers make the rounds for dollar tips. I don't tip unattractive and out of shape dancers, so my approach in these cases is to politely say no. A few dancers may be inclined to be confrontational since they feel that they are entitled and think that customers are walking ATM machines. In those cases, I turned my back and ignored them, rather than be drawn into a futile argument. All dancers and most customers were African American, but white guys are welcome and won't feel uncomfortable. The Greek guy who collects the $5 cover is rude and surly - I can't believe that anyone would allow this miserable SOB to be the first person customers encounter when they enter the club. At least the barmaid and manager (Rob) were friendly. I had been to this place before and encountered some talent, but overall this place is hit and miss (mostly miss). Very good couch dance mileage is possible, but on this night, there wasn't a single viable prospect. So for me, it was one drink and out the door.
