I'm a recent temporary transplant to Delaware. Last night I decided to check out the "adult" scenery. Ugh. After already being made aware of just how dangerous the city of Wilmington can be, I went into this with low expectations and proceeded with caution. I drive up to the Gold club, which from the outside looks like it could be a fine gem just in a bad area(bright gold lights, large building, nicely lit up).. Ummm, NO. I paid a $20 cover charge to enter this club which left me feeling completely bitter before I even walked all the way in. It's not like this is located in a resort/vacation town. After I walked in, I literally felt like my mental state went into survival mode. As a white guy, in a sea of ethnic staff and patrons, my presence was def made aware of simply by walking to a seat. The waitress DID come to me quickly and took my order(which was a struggle in itself to hear her due to the blaring sounds of this slow, repetitive rap music being pounded into my ears(I like party hip hop, not this slow whiney gold fronts and crack rock hip hop of today).. She returned with my watered down mixed drink and butt raping cost for said drink. And within minutes, I was hounded by trolls. When I say trolls, I do not mean like idiots on the internet looking for arguments..I mean a few women who literally looked like trolls. Short, frumpy, heavyset, and the face's of creatures living under a bridge. Then they began to speak.. I could tell they were trying to communicate with me but I just couldn't figure out exactly what they were saying(I should've brought a hood-translator to accompany me). Of the few things I could understand, "wanna tip me for my set" and "do you wanna feed the twins" were among some of the cliche phrases I deciphered.....and this was all within 15 mins of being there. I'm already prepared to pretend to take a phone call, mosey out the door, and drive out of there like a bat at of hell....buuuuuttttttt, then I'm approached by what I can only figure is the club drug dealer(survival mode goes into overdrive). "yo cuz, you new around here?". Me: nah bruh, born and raised in Wilmington, moved outta town a couple years back but now I'm here for life. Feels like I'm doin life livin' back here. He got a laugh out of the comment and gave me some handshake love. Tells me that if I need to "get on" something for the night to just let him know. Meanwhile his crew at his table are all sizing me up and down. Told him "imma chill for a lil bit but I see where you're at when will swing by there if I need to come up on the night"(I literally have no idea where my lingo is coming from but my instincts were to just stay alive). He gets up and heads back to his table(corner block). I proceed to pat my pockets making sure I still have everything I came with. I do. At this point I've been here maybe 30-45 mins, when the dj announces for all girls to return to the dressing room for showcase promo. I'm thinking, Ok, this could be interesting. Nope. This is a time in the night where all the girls gather on the catwalk above the stage(which allows the patron to see the pickings all at once) and the dj introduces them to walk across the stage and we are to pick one of them for a promotional priced lap dance. As these robust women walked down the steps to the stage, it literally sounded like a 7.5 on the Richter Scale. I did see 1 white woman in the mix, but as you can imagine, she was first to be scooped up for a dance the second she crossed the stage(as if I wasn't disappointed enough). So I used this time to put a cig in my mouth and head out the door for a "smoke break". But I must have "forgot my lighter in the car", so I proceeded straight to my vehicle with my keys in hand, finger on the panic button, and jumped in, and BURNED RUBBER all the way out of town! Needless to say, I will not be returning to this place....without a vest.
