It had been a while since...

It had been a while since I visited Mexicali. I went again, looking for La Mosca, a club I had been to before. I learned that La Mosca had moved, and the "old" location for La Mosca was now a club called "Suite 69." I asked to go, since I really liked the old location.

Took a cab from the border to the club. Very friendly staff both outside the club and inside, too. I went on a Wednesday night and although it wasn't jam packed with people, there was a really great vibe from both the dancers and the other patrons. I would say there were about 12-15 dancers working on and off on this Wednesday night shift. One criticism I had is that there is a lot of artifical light in the club. It is really really well lit, as if it were a movie set or something. The light wasn't too harsh, but I think for a better ambience, a little less light and a more moody darkness would have been better.

That being said, the service was incredible. Waiters served buckets of beer, dancers were friendly. Coming from the border, one caveat is that a lot of dancers will ask for drinks to be paid by you. To me, it's par for the course in Mexico, and to its credit none of the dancers cheated us and the staff did not charge us for more than was ordered. A lady's drink I think averaged about 8 usd, so they can add up just as a warning. But what was really cool about this place is that there are tables with poles on the tables, so dancers will upon request, give you a lap dance on the table itself for you. Afterwards you tip her and pay for the table dance, which I believe was 10 usd.
