I was in Detroit for a 2 day meeting. We finished up early the second day, and I had a few hours to kill before my flight home. Having heard great things about the quality of Detroit clubs, I decided to try one out. It turns out the Landing Strip (as the name implies, I now realize) is close to the Detroit airport, so I decided to check it out before heading home. It was a Wednesday around 2:30 when I reached the area. Even though its Detroit and near the airport, the club was in a nice area that seemed very safe to me during the day. It looked like it would be fine at night too. There was road construction, and I parked on the street, which wasn't a big deal. It was easy enough. When you walk in, you take a flight of stairs to the club. I was not charged a cover.
This is a small club, but it is fairly classy. There is a nice mix of tables and booths, and everything seemed relatively clean. I sat at a table near the stage (close enough to make it easy to tip, but it was far enough so I could avoid doing so if I wanted). Almost immediately, a rather attractive brunette waitress approached me and asked if I wanted a drink. I ordered a miller light, and she returned quickly, and was polite. I forget how much the beer cost, but I gave her $10 and told her to keep the change. There was one dancer on stage, and 5 or 6 others who seemed to be hanging out near the bar. All were in the 5-7 range - attractive, but not amazing (by strip club standards). There were probably 4 or 5 other customers there. But like I said, this club is small, so I imagine it would feel crowded really quick if there were too many more. One downside was that there was somebody smoking. I know a lot of clubs permit this, but given I was on my way home, and in nice clothes, it was frustrating. But it did not permeate the club since it was just 1 person.
I sat back as the first dancer finished up. She was a relatively petite blonde. She was pretty enough, and was actually making an effort (as opposed to many day shift dancers who seem to just get up and sway). When she was done, she went to the back and I did not see her again, but since I did not have a chance to tip her, and none of the other customers seemed to be paying any attention, I was not surprised. What did surprise me was the fact that it seemed forever for the next dancer to take the stage. I am not sure exactly how long, but I do not I had ordered my second beer before she finally took the stage. The next dancer was another blonde, taller than the last, and she has a great body. She was a solid 7+ and the most attractive dancer in the place, so I made my way to the stage. I sat stage side for a few minutes, and when she made her way over I tipped her $5. She smiled and thanked me, and I returned to my beer. When she was done, I hoped she'd come over and say hello, but she did not.
