I made a first ever visit to Sugar's based on the recommendations of a dancer at a different San Antonio club (the Men's Club) who described Sugar's as having a "raunchy" atmosphere-- just my kind of club! Sugar's did have a good crowd of customers and a sizable number of dancers, especially for an afternoon visit so I guess the atmosphere was fairly lively, especially when compared to the San Antonio Men's Club that was pretty empty and laid back. The dancer quality at Sugars was decent, consisting of a mix of white, Hispanic and black dancers. Many of the dancers were "thick" and only a few might qualify as athletic or spinners (my preference). Lap dances were given in open nooks of the club-- zero privacy but at least some two way contact. There was a VIP area that required $50 for entry and feature a cubicle with a sheer curtain-- a bit more private than the dances on the open floor. I sampled dances from several women and they featured reasonable two way contact and a bit of over the pants stick shifting. Overall, the private dance "fun" was disappointing, especially when compared with the options in many other US cities. I don't know if my sample of clubs (Sugars and Mens Club of San Antonio) was representative of the strip club scene in San Antonio but if it is, the local ordinances that prohibit the exposure of nipples has certainly curtailed the fun at the San Antonio strip club scene. If adult entertainment is a priority for you when you travel, I CANNOT recommend a visit to San Antonio or to its strip club scene.
