The Landing Strip provided the best...

The Landing Strip provided the best overall experience of the five Detroit-area clubs I visited on a recent business trip (everybody needs a hobby, right?). The club is easy to find--I-94 to Wayne Road South, right at the first traffic light (Goddard Rd.), cross the railroad tracks and the building is on the left. Mandatory $6 valet parking in their lot, but some on-street parking is available. The club itself is up a flight of stairs; large elevated stage in the center of a high-ceilinged room; bar on one narrow end, DJ booth and restrooms on the other end, booths and table seating on the long sides of the stage. Back in the 80s when I first visited LS, the VIP was an upstairs balcony; now, curtained private dance booths are downstairs. Club staff (parking dude, bartender, wait staff, bouncers) uniformly polite and professional. The facility is well-maintained, clean, and not smoky.

What set the Landing Strip apart was the quality of the dancers. I arrived around 3:30 Saturday afternoon. The 8 or so dancers there were all attractive and energetic on stage. After 4:00, more dancers began to arrive but the overall quality of the talent remained high--much better than the nearby Silver Cricket, and on average better than the weekday afternoon shift on my trip to the Flight Club. I sat at the bar near the stage stairs; dancers showed their appreciation for stage tips and several (those not occupied with other customers) offered company after their set. While there were a number of girls sitting with their regulars, I had plenty of opportunities for interaction. Finally settled on an older but appealing blonde for some private dances downstairs and had an outstanding time. Thank goodness for Detroit!

I've visited once in a while over the past 20-25 years, and to me the Landing Strip is still offering great entertainment. I will definitely return.
