Chix on Dix is open for...

Chix on Dix is open for business, and overall is a fun place. My main reason for checking it out was the name, which I love but learned that the new owners intend to change--apparently, not everybody gets the joke. Chix is in an industrial area; Dix Avenue is a fairly prominent road, so it's easy enough to find. The parking lot looks safe enough for a daylight visit. I'm not from Detroit, so I have no idea what the neighborhood is like after dark. During the day, there's no charge to park, as well as no cover charge. Inside, the club is small but clean and freshly-painted--a "hole in the wall," but not some smoky dump like Henry the VIII. Mid-afternoon was slow. Three or four dancers, about the same number of customers; the bartender may have been an owner/manager (he was seated at the end of the bar working on his laptop computer, got up to pour me a drink, and went back to his spreadsheet). Drink prices were in line with the Cricket, less than BT's/Flight Club. Dancers were in the 6--7 range, with decent personalities. I sat at the bar next to a slender, 30-something brunette who was energetic and a good conversationalist. Overall, a laid-back, friendly vibe, with the music not too loud for conversation.

My interaction with the chatty one progressed to the matter of lap dances, and I discovered an array of menu options at a reasonable price. LD rooms are small but clean and comfortable, with curtains for privacy. Had an awesome time in the back, thanks to the playful attitude of my dance partner. After the dances, back to the bar for another round, and I was on my way to check in to my hotel and meet up with clients for the evening.

I really hope business picks up at Chix. A friendly, relaxing place, with new management that seems to be trying hard and deserves to succeed. I'll make it a point to return on my next visit to Detroit.
