Alcatraz is the only game in town in Monroe County, but the lack of competition does not drive down quality too far. The club is a large building with easy access from the main road with a well lit parking lot that, on this night at least, was being checked up on by security. The building itself is bright and inviting. Cover for this Saturday was $10, which is steep, but not outrageous. The interior of Alcatraz is nondescript, dominated in the middle of the building by the large stage with three poles (although the stage is never shared it seems) ringed by seating, tables beyond that, and booths beyond that, except for the side that the bar runs down. Service at the bar itself was sub-par, with side conversations with friends and customers taking priority over serving drinks. Imported beer was $5.75 (and don't expect to get your quarter back in your change), mixed well drinks were $5.50. Smoking is permitted in this club and if you don't smoke you should be prepared to come out smelling like you do.

The girls of Alcatraz share a lot in common with the building: they're large, white, and smell like cigarette smoke. They, as a group, are also terrible pole dancers, meandering back and forth down the long stage during their sets. On the plus side they are a generally friendly bunch who are willing to approach but are not overly pushy. There are a few diamonds in the rough though (unless big girls are your preference, then you're in hog heaven), and they give a good performance on stage as well as off. There is a back room for lap dances, dimly lit and quiet where your $20 private dance (or the occasional 2 for $30) can be better enjoyed. There are also booths behind the booths on the floor with thin curtains that a dancer can choose to take you to. It also appears that you could enjoy a bottle service in them but there did not appear to be any champagne being sold. Whichever room you get you can expect high mileage at Alcatraz, and if you're hunting it should not be difficult to find extras being offered as well.

Importing better talent from Toledo would raise this club's profile, and with their recent crackdown on nipples probably wouldn't be too hard to do. Better accommodations for private dances would be nice, and a bottle service and food menu could entice some additional spending in this blue collar region.
