I went during Mardi Gras so...

I went during Mardi Gras so of course it was nuts! I was lucky enough to go with my brother and cousin who are bulkier guys so they could push through the crowd for me. We hit Bourbon the Saturday night before Fat Tuesday and after the Endymion Parade. (Another attraction to watch when you're visiting). My brother recommended bringing shoes that I wouldn't mind throwing away later and I'm so glad I heeded his advice! They were disgusting afterwards. There's so much beer, booze, trash, food, vomit and whatever else (some mystery substance that turned the tops of my shoes red). Not going to say I didn't have fun, but I had a better time once we got off of Bourbon and into a bar on a side street. I did however have a famous drink called, "The Grenade". Straight up liquor in it and nothing else, I'd limit yourself to one, trust me. It took us an hour when we wanted to leave because the street was so full. All in all I wasn't terribly impressed, I might have had a better time of it five years ago when I was in college. Definitely one of those one time things just to have the experience and say you survived Mardi Gras on Bourbon!
