Spearmint Rhino is a chain I'd heard lots about over the years, but had never actually seen. When one opened in the area I was very interested in checking it out. I waited a few months to give them time to break in and get through all of the new club issues. I had just left a good time at another club and decided to head out and check out the Rhino. Big mistake!

I walk up and there are a couple of lamish looking bouncers near the door, smoking. They just watch me walk in. Inside, a few guys are sitting around, music is playing, and there's a big empty stage. No dancers. I do a quick scan (the place is SMALL) and I see one dancer talking to a guy at a table, but that's it. So I sit at the bar and order an overpriced drink. Nothing's happening, nobody's going up on stage, and as I finish my drink and get ready to leave, I see a dancer finally walking up there. So I sit down at the rack and throw out some cash. I know I called her a dancer, but I really should have called her a swayer, because swaying is all that she does. Oh, and she was really good at looking bored too. Huzzah! She tries to sell me a private dance, but I'm even more bored than she is and I leave.

Shame on you Spearmint Rhino. I don't know why I'd have hopes for some national chain strip joint in a city like Portland. I do not think I will be returning.
