Maybe day shift isn't a thing...
Maybe day shift isn't a thing at the Spearmint Rhino WPB. I arrived Thursday at 1:00 with some time to kill before an afternoon business meeting in Boca. A previous visit (see my review of 11/16/14) was good enough to warrant a return visit. This time, I thought for a moment I had walked into a really dark library instead of a strip club. Front desk was unstaffed (meaning I skipped the $1 day cover charge); once inside the club, the main stage was empty. There appeared to be 2 or 3 other customers and 4 or 5 dancers, scattered around the perimeter checking their mobile phones. Oh, well, there was tournament basketball on the flat screen behind the bar, and the bartender was attractive, friendly, and efficient.
Eventually a dancer appeared on stage; after a three-song set, the stage was empty for another three songs; then another dancer. The first two girls on stage were attractive, but the rest of the line-up was unimpressive--one obese brunette with thick glasses who appeared to be pushing 50; another younger but homely brunette whose body and face would have been on the low end of Porthole Pub talent. Basically, I was relieved to be left alone to sip my drink and watch the game. Later, a thick Venezuelan, sexy but over 40, convinced me to go for a few lap dances. Dances were OK, and at only $15 a decent value. Neither of the decent-looking girls made the rounds after their stage sets.
Overall, I wanted to like SR. It's a handsome physical plant with a good wait staff and a convenient location. It may be a much different (and better) place later in the afternoon; maybe it's a great night shift operation. But on this particular early afternoon, I wound up going down the street to Cheetah to relieve the boredom.
