Let's no kid ourselves. Tj is a high crime area and a major hub of narcotics traffic. Beggars groveling on the filthy sidewalk, little kids asking for money, deported gang bangers hanging about mixed in with genuine hard working Mexicans trying to scratch out a living all in a very congested, crumbling, and unplanned city. If you stick to the beaten path -walk straight over, get a cab, go into club, your chances of trouble are lessened. But again, let's not kid ourselves. You go there enough times you are playing the odds.

Adelita has done some renovations and expanded the back bar area and added more seating. A big improvement. More places to sit and take in the scene. It is nice to drink a few 3.75 ice cold Coronas in a strip club and not be contstantly pestered. Making eye contact seems to be the mode of initiating something. Or they will tug on your shirt sleeve as you pass by. I saw a range of women from 4 to 7 when I was there on a Wednesday. More chubbers and past their prime types than I would have liked. Mexican women are experts at hiding unflattering aspects with strategically placed clothing. Not a roomful of stunners but most had something going on. Some seemed to shy away from Americanos. Particularly the darker skinned brothers. But there were enough there for all to have a good time. Unfortunately I chose poorly. My girl was a big party girl downstairs and seemed like a good time. She spoke some English. Had a nice cuvy body and smelled good. Said 60 downstairs which turned into 120 after when she said we had gone overtime. When I mildly protested she told me "I know the police" in a loud voice at which point I handed her another 60. After peeking in my wallet she then asked if I wanted to spend the night. She said she had a room upstairs. I declined since I didn't want to end up drugged, kidnapped or robbed by her pimp or boyfriend or extorted by her policia buddies on some bogus rape charge. A real snake this girl was. And it wasn't even good. So yes your dollar can go a long way here, a great time can be had and most of the people you will interact with want you to return. But not always. If your inner alarm goes off don't ignore it.
