I went to Jumbo’s Clown Room on a Monday night around 11pm. The club is in the middle of a strip mall on Hollywood Boulevard. Jumbo’s Clown Room has been around for 45 years and has had dancers since 1982. There is no cover charge, but the bouncer informs you to make sure you tip the dancers when they dance. Bottles of beer were $6. The club is basically a medium sized stage with a pole on one side and a bar on the other side. There is seating at the bar, at the stage, and some tables in the back. I’d classify this club as more of a show club that a strip club because (1.) there is just a stage show and (2.) the dancers only strip down to bra and panties. You do not see tits or ass here. The dancers kept their tops on, and their bottoms were never skimpy thongs. You also cannot touch the dancers. Supposedly, you can get lap dances. I did not see anyone getting them, so I assume they would be just air dances if they do exist here.

The average TUSCL reader is probably asking how this place keeps the lights on without offering nudity or real lap dances. I don’t know the answer to that, but the club was packed to capacity on a Monday night (probably the worst night to visit a SC after Sunday), and it seemed the dancers were raking in about $100 in singles each one-song set they danced. The staff was more or less friendly, and about a third of the patrons were female, some of them pretty hot.

The dancers were between 5’s and 9’s in the looks department. Other reviewers have mentioned that a lot of the dancers have an alternative look, and I’d agree for the most part. Some are rock chicks, some are hipster/artist types, some are trained professional dancers, and others are just girls who moved out to Hollywood and failed in other pursuits. This particular evening there were nine dancers working. All were white, except for one Asian dancer. The thing you notice about Jumbo’s is that the dancers here can actually dance. You don’t get the crap that you see at other clubs where dancers just walk around the pole. Dancers would pick a song to dance to off the non-Internet jukebox, which tended to be a lot of 70’s, 80’s and 90’s music. The current roster consists of forty-four dancers.
