I finally decided to see how...
I finally decided to see how Southern X-posure Showgirls compared to the other Salt Lake lap dance club, and it's something of a mixed bag. I went around 5:30 (The website says they open at 4PM everyday, but once I got there I was told they opened at 5:00 on Sunday). Cover was $20 for lap dance access; not sure what the price would have been without it. I've read other reviews that say there's a "VIP section," but that basically amounts to being allowed to sit on the couches at one side of the room (where all the lap dances happen). If there's a private area that's actually private, it wasn't mentioned to me whatsoever. I was offered drinks upon entering and twice while sitting with one of the dancers. One thing that struck me as odd was that security escorted some of the dancers on and off stage. I've never seen that anywhere else, and I'm not sure what the deal was.
When I arrived, I think there were only four dancers on shift (of course, it WAS Sunday night). I was told more show up around 7:00 or 8:00, but I only noticed one new dancer before I left. Most of them were pretty attractive but not stellar. One blonde with great curves among the brunettes, though I'm pretty sure one of them was either part Asian or Polynesian (not sure...should have asked). The thing that I found most surprising though was the fact that there WAS NO STRIPPING to speak of at this strip club. The dancers wore bikinis and they never came off. I was told it was amateur night and that some of the dancers were stage only, no lap dances. I wonder if that had anything to do with the lack of stripping since I've never read anything about this place not having topless dancers. I know this is Utah, but come on. Most dancers stayed on stage for three songs, but one came down after just one for some reason. Also, most didn't seem very enthusiastic on stage (again, maybe because of being a slow night?) so all things considered, the stage show wasn't impressive.
I was surprised to find out that lap dances only cost $10 here instead of the $20 I'm familiar with. Unfortunately, the song lengths here are definitely on the short side. I'd say that two songs are only about the length of a standard song and a half, but that's still longer than one for $20. I had dances from two dancers. The first was the aforementioned ethnic dancer who seemed to be the most friendly and most energetic of everyone on shift. She did a good job and I ended up going from two to four songs initially (which, again, was more like three) before she had to go back on stage. She asked if I wanted someone else sent over and I said sure. The second dancer wasn't as amazing though. I'd previously read that the lap dances here were more of the "graze" than the "grind" variety, and the second dancer definitely fell into the former category. I decided to spend the rest of the money I'd planned on spending with the first dancer since she actually danced the way I liked and she was more attractive to boot. So for the duration I was there she sat and talked with me whenever she wasn't on stage (I always appreciate actual conversation from dancers) even though I took a break from the lap dances. I figure she knew I would be getting more eventually.
