Sugar 44 Cabaret is a "locals"...

Sugar 44 Cabaret is a "locals" club with a relaxed atmosphere. In PHX for business; Sugar 44 happened to be very close to my hotel, so I took a chance. As other reviewers have pointed out, the club is very small, and not very busy when I arrived at 5:00 or so. No cover before 7:00; free parking behind the building; courteous bouncer and bartender. The place is pretty dark (not a bad thing). Stage lighting made it hard to see the dancers. Drink prices were on par with other clubs.

Five or six dancers were working when I stopped in, entertaining maybe a dozen customers. Mixed ethnicities, around 6-8 in the looks department, with the upside being conversational skills. Each dancer with whom I had an interaction could carry on a conversation without rushing toward the inevitable "wanna dance?" To my mind, this contributes to the chilled-out feel of Sugar 44--no pressure, just pleasant company if that's what you want. Floor dances are $10/song with typical PHX contact. The VIP is a raised section of small booths with a low wall dividing it from the main floor. It's $20 (one-time) to enter the VIP, and then $20/song. The VIP actually offers reasonable privacy--you can see the main stage, but the wall makes it tough for people on the main floor to see what's going on in VIP.

After sampling some floor dances with a few girls, I settled on a very cool AA dancer for a drink and some VIP action. Overall, a very sensual experience. I'll be back, mainly because of the atmosphere.
