I'd heard this was the new...
I'd heard this was the new hot club in town, now that Delilah's has decayed. Visited early in the day, it was mostly empty. I'll have to visit one or two more times to form a good opinion of the place. A little hard to find from Center City, even harder to get back. It's in an empty industrial area, like the clubs along N Delaware, but far from CC. Delilah's can be reached by subway or an easy cab ride from hotels, but Penthouse is more of a trek. I don't like valet parking because I don't like other people driving my car, but the only other option is to park on the street. Think I'll invest in a cab next time, but it's a pain. I'd rather pay a parking fee to an attendant, but park myself -- in case the managers read this, please note.
Disorienting when you first come in. Mirrors everywhere, it took me a few minutes to make sure I didn't walk into anything. The club is large, but seems smaller when you realize how much is reflected in the mirrors. At least it beats the black walls in Delilah's, which now look grimy (did they always?). The clubs are probably the same size, but Penthouse is higher, with rooms for dances on the second floor balcony. I'm still not sure how it works. I thought I'd asked for a single song, but my dancer told the bouncer I was getting a half hour. She was hot, so I said to myself, what the hell.
I saw maybe 3 dancers when I was there, took the last one for some dances then left. Two were skinny but pretty, the third I don't even remember. A couple of other customers, one monopolizing the bartender, who didn't seem very eager to work. Don't blame her, it was really dead for such a big club.
