TL;DR up front: "Amateur night" wasn't very amateur. With the regulars, lots of rules means no extras but keep appropriate expectations and you can enjoy your evening.

It was a cold and rainy night... well, not so cold but definitely rainy. Arrival shortly after 10pm, the "amateur" competition started at 10:30 similar to other reviews. The club was crowded but not packed full, probably affected by the weather. The front door was a gauntlet of smokers (they should be 20 feet away from the building in CA) but I'll give that a pass too due to rain.

Immediately upon arrival, a regular approaches me for a dance. Totally not my type, but I'm not that good on the brush-off. (How do you say "I find you too manly, but others might not" without making a scene?) I told her I hadn't even sat down yet and wanted to dry off and warm up, so she let me go but approached me 2 other times through the evening. After sending her off I parked myself down in Pervert Row and waited for the competition.
