I read the other TUSCL reviews...
I read the other TUSCL reviews of this place and figured I'd see what this was like. Visited about 7pm on a Thursday evening. I had tried to visit last night but they door guys didn't let me in because "no sneakers." I figured that's ok, they're entitled to set their own rules (it had been raining like crazy when I left for work in the morning so I left my dress shoes home.) However, I thought they were a bit smug about rejecting me, not rude but certainly didn't make any effort to encourage me to come back. I got the impression they had more customers than they needed, so what the hell.
But I was interested to see what the famous 1819 club would end up like after being empty for a long time (8+ years?) Wanted to see what the old hangout of the wacky FBI spy Robert Hanson would be like. So I came back tonight about the same time (after work) and was granted admission. One of the (3!) doormen led me in, pointed me up a flight of stairs, told me to turn left, thru the beaded doorway, etc. Well, I'd seen the pictures of the club on the web site but that's not where I ended up. It was a small, very modern, impressive room with a small bar (seating for 4, I think), about 10 small tables and 2 round stages at either end of the bar. There was one other customer, 1 dancer on stage, 3 others sitting around and about 4 young, hip folks behind the bar. I ordered a Bud, no but no Bud, only domestic beer was Miller Lite. Ordered on, cost $10 plus $1 tax (with $1 tip to the bar maid we're at $12 already!) The African American dancer was attractive but seemed a bit bored. Did about 5-6 songs while after I arrived, which got a little old. One more customer arrived (back up to 2, so much for "more customers than they needed"), although they'd just opened for the day. The next dancer was a young, hot Hispanic woman, well worth watching much more into her routine. She stopped by for her tip after about 3-4 songs, very pleasant and filled me on the place. Seems they don't use the main room unless this little room fills up (maybe during the week.) Only open at night, might start a day shift "in Novemeber."
The next 2 dancers where more ordinary looking and really seemed bored being there place. I finished my beer and went a few doors downn to the Camelot and enjoyed myself a lot more.
