Decided to visit my first San Antonio strip club on the spur of the moment; and the club I chose was The Palace, a topless club in the NE part of town. If I remember correctly, there is parking around the front of the club and to the sides. I’m told there’s a dress code, but as I wear button-downs when I’m feeling casual that doesn’t really apply to me. They will ask for your ID before allowing you into the club (in case you want to open a tab, which I guess is standard at The Palace), and the cover I paid at 8 pm was $10. I was also told that they aren’t shy about turning people away if they don’t like the way you look or dress, which probably explains why this club has no thug factor. Seriously. If it did have a thug factor, I promise you it would be a negative number. The music was fine, since I can’t really remember it, I guess that means it wasn’t annoying or overly loud.
As for the club itself, it looks great. Very posh and clean and comfortable. There is a large stage (with no pole), and I think I also noticed two very small side stages (which weren’t in use). There is a VIP area at the back of the main room, and upstairs there are two more VIP rooms. The first one has a quieter, more relaxed ambience, with its own bar, and a glass wall overlooking the main floor down below. Then through the door on the left, there’s a smaller VIP room for smokers with its own restroom and more natural lighting.
When I walked in it was almost deserted due to the early hour. I was told many night-shift dancers don’t really arrive until about 10 pm. Anyway, there were only about half a dozen men there, and I could only spot one dancer, so at first I wasn’t very optimistic.
