Back in the pre-Katrina days, this...
Back in the pre-Katrina days, this place was the Gold Club where I had the honor or shame of being one of the last guests to leave way too many nights... uh, I mean, mornings. NOLA has seen some changes since those days, but it thrilled me when I was back in town about a year ago and saw a familiar face working the bar facing Iberville. Preferring to catch up with my dear friend who
always starting pouring my cognac as soon as she saw me walk through the door back in the day, I didn't spend much time inside. After reading some of the reviews, however, I was pleased to see that the club is still keeping men and even a few women well entertained. Which prompted me to share a couple of notes from days gone by which still appear to be true.
First off, as debaucherous as the quarter appears to be, don't assume the strip clubs offer a visitor any mileage beyond what the average club in Anytown, USA. However, the ladies seem to be a step
above in the wit and manners department as well as being perfectly capable of holding your visual interest. They either live or are traveling to work in one if the most unique cities in the USA, which seems to make them more interesting on average. One of the reasons I spent so much time in the club whilst working in town a few days a month, was because of dancer who was an avid reader, music lover and world traveller. Although it's not inexpensive to spend hours upon hours in private rooms at any club, she and many if the other ladies were often quite content to sit at the bar and enjoy a beverage and some spicy banter. After the lights came on we would all head down to the Alibi for a few more drinks and some fried food.
