It had been a while since...
It had been a while since I've been to the Sands but I thought I would check it out since a dancer I knew from one of the other clubs was going to see if it would be worth it to work there.
The place hasn't changed much, if at all, since the late 90s (at least as I remembered it). There are two entrances, although most go through the front since. The back entrance is used by those who have been there before and desire a more discrete way in. As you enter from the front, there is a wall of glass bricks that seem so dated but leads you into the main area after going around it to the left. 2 drink minimum, to account for the fact that there is "no" cover. There were a few customer around, but it was slow for a Thursday night compared with other clubs. Then again this is just a neighborhood place, so that is not a surprise. Most of the girls were huddled around the bar area and one or two would circulate to check on the customers. One of the most irritating things was that as soon as a girl came by to try to work her magic, the waitress was right there asking if I wanted to "buy the lady a drink." First, I don't know if I am remotely interested in the lady's company. I find this to be just plain obnoxious, despite the fact that I know that it is her job. I do sales as a part of my job and the trick is to know when to come in for the close. Second, I would be more inclined to buy a "drink" if it was a real drink, not some watered down soda from a fountain.
The talent this night was mixed and most indicated that the dances in the VIP room were $40 per song. It can add up and be expensive, but then again the songs are full songs from the jukebox and not controlled by a DJ and run to a 3 minute version. I ended up staying for only about 45 minutes and after checking out the talent that night I decided to go up the road.
