Well I got in yet another...
Well I got in yet another visit to my favorite club, and I'm glad I did. It may be the last visit to the Club 35 I know and love. I'd heard talk about a Club 35 opening in Buffalo, but had hoped it was the current owner expanding. Sadly that isn't the case. The owner has lost his lease on the building to a group who also want to run a strip club, but offered the building owner more money. Jimmy, the present owner, wonders how it will change, and if it will change. He doesn't see how they'll make it work or what they'll do different to pull in more money. Seeing as he's run the place for 10 years, the last 5-6 in a recession and kept the doors open and a lot of the same dancers, I'm inclined to take his word for it. I'm hoping he's right and he'll be back in the space in 6 months when the new owners default. If not, I'll wish him and the gang all well and try to visit if I'm passing through Buffalo.
So before I get to last night I'll just put this out to the community. If you ever wondered, ever said some day you'd visit, or thought that maybe you'd make the effort at some point, do it. You have 2 weeks left. Club 35 in Buffalo might not be the same as Club 35 in Fredonia, so make the trip, spend the money, and experience one of the best clubs I've ever been in. I know I only get a trip or two a year, but I've been coming here since it opened, I consider myself a regular, and so do some of the dancers (even if I occasionally have to re-introduce myself). It is rare to find that club with such a neighborhood bar feel, yet the amazing dancers and dances available in a place like this. Truly unique in my experience, and it will be missed. I hope that Jimmy is able to keep the same sort of feel in Buffalo, or at least Buffalo's version of it. It will be Buffalo's gain and Fredonia's loss. That said, I wish the new operators all the best luck, as did Jimmy. I hope they can keep what made this place great and that they have their own ideas of how to make it greater, not just to make more money. Businesses like this are all about establishing relationships with the dancers, the customers, and the community, and the club that sacrifices those relationships for money won't last long. Jimmy understands that and I hope the new operators do too.
As for Saturday night, as it often does here, things started slow. When I arrived at about 10 there were three dancers, Olivia, Jordan and CiCi, and half a dozen customers. I occupied myself with the stage-side tipping while waiting for more dancers to arrive so I could take Jordan and Olivia to the back for a repeat performance of the previous night. There is a lot of value for very little money to be had tipping stage-side here. For one not a lot of people do it, for another those who do get some good attention and a sample of what awaits in back, but is a bit more comfortable and a lot more private. And the girls appreciate it. If you're shy and don't want to be a spectacle or something, give a token of your appreciation to one of the other girls and they'll be glad to deliver it for you and make themselves the spectacle.
