Alas, San Jose! If you don't have time for the drive, you're gonna have to settle for second best -- and unfortunately, last week, I couldn't get up to SF so I did just that. The Pink Poodle wasn't a dive, but it didn't do too much to excite me. The girls were okay (6-8's) and the pressure low (so low, in fact, that I wasn't sure they realized I was there -- a nice change from the pushy free-for-all at O'Farrell's, but sometimes I like being approached) but two LDs demonstrated that nothing much was going to happen for my $20, so the interest level dropped pretty quickly for me. If you're just looking to hang out for an hour and watch some dancing (with occasional, annoying breaks -- where is everybody?) then it's an okay club (especially if Kali is on!) but if you're looking for more, get back in the car and head north.
