Haven't reviewed this place in a loooonnng time, although I have been at least a couple of times since. I'm approaching this "review" a little different...this is not a "club" in the normal sense. I had a long layover at Newark (EWR) airport and decided to do a "ball-on-a-budget" while awaiting my flight out. It would be hard for me to recommend coming to Irvington, unless you are on a decent length vacation to the NYC area or have family here. Still, on the list of ebony spots, it is worth checking out just for the sheer spectacle and experience that you are not likely to get anywhere else (as far as service is concerned...lol!).
So, I arrange my business trip to purposely change flights out of EWR for the sole purpose of making this run. First problem, my trip was on Sunday and didn't know if they would be open. Contacted some folks thru TUSCL without luck; tried the number listed for the establishment for days and it seemed like the number went to a fax machine but someone picked up on the 3rd day and told me it was open on Sunday. So I booked my flight...lol!
Now, I've done this before, so I had experience on my side. But for anyone trying this, I don't recommend it unless you have at least 5 hours to burn at the airport. I printed a copy of the NJ transit bus schedule for bus 37, which travels to/from airport and goes into Irvington. You want to budget at least $3 for the trip there and back (bring change if want to be exact). Miltary/students gets a discount and it cost me .70 cents for each ride. Make note of a taxi number, too, in case the plan breaks down (on the return trip). The trip is about 20 minutes to get you there. DO NOT even think of getting off this bus until you have seen the Irvington Bus Terminal! Otherwise, your plan will already break down...lol! As you get closer to the Stuyvesant stop, you will see Irvington Public Library on the left and bus will announce the street. The bus itself does not travel on Stuyvesant (I believe the street being travelled is Clinton), so when you get off, you will have to walk about 3 blocks to Vic's; watch for the house numbering and if the numbers are getting bigger you are going the wrong way! Also, note what side of the street you got off, because you will want to be on the other side to come back; you will be surprised at how disoriented you can be after a few drinks, a nut relieved and not knowing your surroundings...lol! This walk is about 5-9 minutes depending on your pace.
