It was easy to find Harper's....
It was easy to find Harper's. The street is a highly traveled street downtown, and at night it is very well-lighted. It was Thursday night and I found some free on-street parking two blocks away. Upon arriving, I asked the doorman how many dancers were working and he said "About ten." In my head, I divided by two, came up with five and figured that that number would be worth the entry fee.
When I got in, to my surprise there were almost ten dancers. (I'm sorry to have doubted you, Mr Doorman). I saw only one dancer who was white. Almost all the patrons were African American. Although I stood out, I didn't feel unwelcome or apprehensive.
The stage is long with a circular area at each end. The dancers do not dance in rotation and the DJ does not muster the women to the stage like in so many other clubs. Apparently, a girl can dance whenever she wants and step off the stage when she wants. All dancers lowered their panties briefly for the patrons.
