Femme Nu opens at 2:00 PM...
Femme Nu opens at 2:00 PM and during the day there is no cover. After 6:00 PM a $7 cover charge includes your first drink assuming you order a beer or something that would normally cost $3-$5 dollars. If you order a call shot like Johnny Walker or Dewars you’ll pay an extra $3-$4. This makes the effective cover charge around $4 dollars, which isn’t too bad since Femme Nu is a decent enough club. Sometimes the free tourist publications will have a coupon that can save you the nighttime cover charge. In this case you will pay for your first drink yourself. The fine print on these coupons advises that you must be from out of state. Interesting. This is just the opposite from Las Vegas where most clubs waive the cover charge for people with proof of Las Vegas residence. A bottle of beer is $3 before 9:00 o’clock and $5 after. A call drink is about $6.
I have never been to a strip club that operates quite like Femme Nu. Most of this information applies to Rockza as well. There are no private dances. The dancers usually don’t perform very much until someone tips them. The girls all carry a custom mat or pillow. They sit on this while waiting for a customer to sit down. These mats have a zipper compartment and are used as sort of a pillow-purse to store their tips. Once someone starts tipping a girl she will start dancing, opening her elastic garter about every 45 seconds (this may vary slightly from girl to girl) for another dollar. Normally it takes roughly $10 to get a girl topless and bottomless. Compared to other areas where nude—no contact air dances are performed, this isn’t as bad as it seems. I’ve been to many cities where a nude--no contact private dance costs $20 for one song. At Femme Nu $20 (in $1 bills) would last for about four or five songs with the girl being nude for about half of the time. I guess, considering Hawaii’s stuffy and sanctimonious laws, the clubs are doing the best they can.
There are four stages at Femme Nu and depending on how busy it is there might be two girls on each stage or five girls on each stage. The ones with a tipping customer will be “working” and the rest will be sitting on their mats or occasionally dancing unenthusiastically trying to attract someone.
