I stopped by the Spearmint Rhino...

I stopped by the Spearmint Rhino in Oxnard on Tuesday night. I'd never been there before, and I was passing through on a business trip. I got there at about 12:00am Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. The door charge was $20 (I had looked for a coupon online, but wasn't able to find one). I asked the door how many girls were dancing; he consulted his list and told me that they had 16 girls. The club was scheduled to close at 2:00am.

Physically, the club is ok. It's in an out-of-the-way industrial district; very low key on the outside. There's a long strip of a parking lot outside; it was mostly full when I got there. As you enter the door, there's a curtain separating the club from the entryway; the door is on the other side of the curtain, so I was able to glance around the place as I was paying (as opposed to paying at a window prior to entry). Inside, the bar is to the immediate right (no alcohol; it's a full nude club in California), and the one main stage dominated the center of the room. There are several tables and chairs scattered around the club on all sides of the stage, as well as the customary seating right on the rail. To the left was the regular dance rooms (basically a long couch where several dances are happening at the same time; very little privacy), and then around the corner to the left was the VIP area (partitioned and curtained private dance areas).

When I was there, there was a wristband deal (for an extra $10 at entry, you got a wristband that allowed you to get 2-for-1 dances all night long). The deal didn't apply to VIP, or to the various promotions that the DJ ran (4 for 2, 3 for 1, etc.) If I were to do it again, I probably wouldn't bother with the band, and just wait for the various deal times. Topless dances were $20 (which I didn't do), Nude was $40, and VIP was 3 songs for $90.
