So, warnings about possible dangers in Tijuana not withstanding, on a recent visit to San Diego I drove down to the border and parked on the US side. The new pedestrian entrance to Mexico is quite a long walk up and over a bridge. Just follow the signs. Once down and through the turnstile you're in.

Follow the crowds of Mexican nationals who have been shopping north of the border and soon you'll see the taxi line up.

Take a yellow cab. Even if the driver's English is not good and your Spanish is worse, all you have to say is "Hong Kong Club" and you'll be on your way.

A few minutes and $5 later, you'll be in Zona Norte which is brightly lit and well patrolled by police. I never had a moment's worry about safety here.
