Ye Olde Axe is a remarkable building on Hackney Road. From the front, it could be any East End pub - a theme that continues inside, with ornate ceilings and dark wood furniture. The location is a little away from the bright lights of Shoreditch, but the short walk is fairly safe. It's just 100 yards from Browns, another strip venue that I haven't been in for years.

There's often a chap on the door who will charge you £4 to get in, though when I arrived in the early afternoon I wasn't charged. There were around ten girls working at the time, from perky young things to more mature experienced dancers. The bar prices are normal for London, my bottle of Budweiser setting me back £5. There are floor dances and it's a case of putting a minimum of £1 in the pint glass when it's offered round. Don't add your pound and you're kicked out. The bar are very happy to change up your notes to make sure you can add your coins.

The private dance area is behind an L-shaped wall and the dances take place alongside anyone else who has bought a dance. They're pretty full-on - thoroughly good fun. If you don't get a dance from Claudia then you're missing out on a spectacular few minutes. Worth £20 every day of the week. I also opted for the 2-girl dance for £40 which will live long in my memory.
