This is the first time I've gone to X-Ray's since it reopened...it has been renovated but the decor is still pretty spartan but now the fixtures are new and overall it is clean and fairly spacious with the main half of the room dominated by a huge stage just slightly above floor level with chairs around all sides; the bar is off to the side. It is $20 to get in after 8PM, $10 earlier (it opens at 6PM) so I paid $20 since I arrived at 10:00PM. I had come a couple days before and after paying the $20 cover at 8:30PM found no dancers anywhere to be seen. The barmaid assured me that there were some there and would be out "in a minute" but after ten minutes of waiting and no dancers I asked for a refund and was given one without any hassle. I wanted to give the place another chance. When I came in, there were four dances and 9 customers including me (so that's slightly more than a 2 -1 customer/dancer ratio, which can be a good thing; a light crowd can make dancers hungrier. One dancer was onstage, the others hanging with customers. The dancer quality was overall fair; average looking girls with good in-shape bodies; one dancer, a petite blond, had a dynamite body and kind of a sexy look. Onstage the dancers didn't do a lot of dancing; they might swing around the poles a couple times but spent most of their time going from customer to customer and giving an up-close-and-personal look, laying back and spreading their legs or getting on their hands and knees and rotating their butt in your face, of course looking for a tip, with their bottoms pulled aside in both cases and tops off...me, I prefer more dancing but if you like this sort of thing then you got it. The dj was playing mostly downtempo hip-hop and rock, which didn't exactly create a party mood. After each dancer's set, the dancer circulated, making small talk, having a drink with customers if asked, and soliciting private dances, but not in a hard-core hustle sort of way. All the dancers were pretty down-to-earth and friendly. I gather the private dances are $20 for a "regular" dance and $30 for a "topless" dance. The private dances took place in a room off the main room. I wasn't really up for a private dance so can't report on the quality; probably varies from dancer to dancer. Unless there were cameras in the private room there would be no easy way to monitor them. As this is one of the few clubs in the area ( there's one on Rt. 15 about 10 miles away and I think another one on Route 10 another 10 miles a way), it would be great if this place turned in to something. It hasn't been open long and one of the dancers said she doesn't think a lot of people know it is re-opened yet; they said the crowd was better on the weekend. Probably worth checking on the weekend. Like most places, it comes down to the quality of the dancers...and these didn't make me want to hurry back. It would be a reasonable stop if the price of entry was only a drink...but at $20 (though no drink purchase is required) it is overpriced.
