There's something that draws me to Sam's Hof Brau. It's not the nicest club, the location is a little sketchy, the armed security dudes pat you down at the entrance, the girls are typically thicker latinas, however there's something very authentic about it and I discovered my first diamond in the rough here. So the quest goes on...looking to find that needle in the haystack yet again.
The club is in the eastern portion of downtown LA where all the warehouses are. They have a Valet parking lot that you should definitely use. It was $5 when I went on Thus at 6pm and quite empty, but I've been there on a Friday night at 10 when it was full, so we went elsewhere. There is street parking around, but unless your car is in clear view of the club, I'd probably skip it all together if you can't park in their lot.
The entrance is right on Olympic & they had a velvet rope thing going on, but there's never been a line when I have gone, but it probably gets crowded later at night. There's no cover, but they check your id & make you turn around & do a pat down. There's a few armed security personnel throughout, so it's safe in a way. The general clientele are working class hispanic guys, some of which look downright gangsta-ish, but there are a few other ethnicities & types scattered thought the club. They have a full bar with reasonably priced drinks & food if you're hungry.
