In Austin for business and hava some evenings to kill. Started the night at Landing Strip but it was slow so I wanted to check out some other places.
Landing Strip is not super posh, but it is nicely decorated, clean, well maintained and seems safe. Chicas is none of those. It is small and dark. The low, black ceiling tiles look like they may fall on your head any second. The chairs and couches are tattered. The bathroom is terrible. A fight broke out in the middle of the room and 2 customers were dragged out under choke-holds by the bouncers! You have to pay $10 to park, because the parking lot is tiny. I suppose you could park somewhere else and walk, but the neighborhood looks pretty rough (when I left I had to take a detour because the street was blocked by some massive police activity!) Cover was $5 on Sunday night.
In spite of the above negatives, I actually enjoyed this club much more than the Landing Strip. The DJ only speaks Spanish, but none of the dancers had any trouble with English. If fact, of the 6-7 dancers probably only half were Latino.
