I live in...
I live in Lawrence and, over the past 6 months or so, this has become a fairly regular hangout of mine. I have probably been there about 8 times in the last month, usually stopping in once on a weeknight and once over the weekend. I have visited alone and with various groups of both men and women. I have been there in the early evening and late at night. I have not checked it out during the daytime yet so my review is based solely on the night shift.
The "Bird" or "Dirty Bird" is a pretty nondescript bar. It looks a lot better on the inside than the outside though nothing spectacular. It is pretty clean (even the bathroom) and a comfortable place for most anyone. Cover is always $5 although I believe that is only after 6 PM. It is both couple and female friendly and I've never felt even remotely threatened by any of the patrons. It consists of an entrance area which has a bar to the right as you walk in. The VIP room entrance is also on your right just as you enter and right next to the bar. This room is an additional $10 cover though I've never seen anyone pay to go right in to VIP. More on the VIP area later. The left area near the entrance consists of a couple of small tables where the doorman and bouncer tend to congregate, occasionally with a couple of dancers taking a break. Past the bar, the club opens into a long rectangle with two stages on either end. The main stage (and the only one which typically has any dancers) is the one on the right side. It also has a one way mirror which provides views of the stage to patrons in the VIP area. There are tables scattered all around the main room. They are pretty tightly packed and the place can feel very crowded when it is even 2/3 full. Against the back wall is a second bar, the restrooms and the dancers' dressing room. There are no couches or special area for dances though many of the patrons and dancers seem to favor the small tables against the wall in the backstage area for privacy.
Drinks are pretty reasonably priced, especially for a strip club. Most beers are $3.50 and I believe wells are $4. You can get a bucket of 6 beers for $15 and, at least on Thursdays, you can get a bucket of Pabst Blue Ribbon for $10. The beers are served in cans which is a bit unusual so if you don't like canned beer, you're out of luck. There are snacks available most anytime and the club serves a pretty highly regarded lunch from 11-2 during the week but I haven't been there to check that out. There are usually two waitresses on the weekends and one during the week. They are all very nice and several are very attractive. They are not terribly attentive at times and I've sat and waited to be served for 15 minutes, even when the place is not that busy. I usually get a beer and tip them the change from $5. I think a lot of the patrons don't tip all that well because they seem to be very appreciate of getting it. As with the dancers, the waitresses pay a lot more attention to the "regulars" and often sit with them and chat, particularly when it is kind of dead. This is a good place to go if you don't want to pressured to order a drink all the time. I think there is a two drink minimum but they will pretty much let you nurse a drink without much pressure to buy another.
