I have been to the YR...

I have been to the YR many times but not regularly. Recently it changed ownership & has been revamped; there is more space inside it now than when i first found the place. This is all to the good. Frankly it used to look kinda cheesy, but now it has clean carpets & more sophisticated lighting system. The cover varies with the time of day but as of now, it costs $12 to get in after 9 p.m. That's not bad when you consider how pricy the big name-brand clubs (i.e., Rick's) can get.

Since I don't drink much when I'm there nor have I made reservations for any groups/parties, I can't tell you much from those angles (though beer is usually too much--$6 a bottle?! But that's typical of strip clubs). I go there to sketch the dancers. Based on my experience--& I've pushed pen & marker in many places--I can tell you that the Rose is as good a place to sketch as a strip club is likely to get. The fact that they don't mind my bringing in a sketchpad is great; that's fairly normal for clubs in Austin but not necessarily true elsewhere. I have never encountered a dancer in the YR who minded my capturing her movement while she's onstage. Reactions from the girls have always been positive. They do appreciate tips, however. It's the decent thing to do when they are basically modelling for you at high speed so shell it out, & everyone's happy. Dancer quality can vary but more often than not, they run from cute to damn-she's-hot. The mgmt. seems to prefer slim girls of average to short height with great muscle tone, in other words, girls who do good polework. You don't see large women (in any sense) that often. Some have implants, some don't, etc. All in all, the Rose is a nice club to go to & you can get in some gesture drawing there, & have fun doing it.

One more thing: Some of the dancers do great lap dances...lots of contact. Go check it out.
