The Blockist remembers when this was an upscale venue with really great dancers and tolereant bartenders. Recently, the Jewel Box has become just another door on the street. Some bartender/managers are better than others at keeping the fun rolling. Sandy has recently presided mid-week. Her background as one of the more aggressively forward dancers in recent memory - "I'll try anything once, and if I like it (which I usually do) I'll rinse and repeat!" - makes her understand just why customers come to a block bar. She really works to make sure everyone is having a good time, tries to spread the wealth around among the dancers so everyone has a reason to come to work the next day, and is probably more tolerant of enthusiastic entertainment strategies than most bartenders. A recent visit left the Blockist happy to have made the Jewel Box his choice for the day. There are two choices for extended entertainment at the Jewel Box - lap dance booths at the left where dancers must be more inventive in order to meet customer expectations, and the basement VIP where things are more relaxed. Ask about options - there are usually several, at the whim of the bartender and the dancer, and often depending on how brisk business has been that day.
