The Toy Chest is not an...

The Toy Chest is not an over-the-top glitzy club (like Penthouse, Players, Coliseum, and several other Detroit clubs). It has more of a neighborhood bar look and feel to it. It is located in low profile building along a well maintained commercial area of Ford Road just west of the Southfield freeway. The club has valet parking for $4 and no entry fee during the day (I've never visited at night). The interior is nice-- not posh, just nice--- with a central stage, booths, a bar area with high top tables and well maintained bathrooms. The VIP area has some small rooms and a few larger rooms that are more conducive to extra curricular activities than the smaller rooms. The club charges a $10 fee per VIP visit-- a per visit charge that is a bit annoying but certainly better than the $20 fee charged by BT's (a local competitor) for very tiny cubicles. Drinks are reasonably priced for a strip club-- $5 beers.

Afternoons feature a good diversity of dancers-- slender blondes, a curvy Latina and several AA women were notable. Most of the dancers would earn ratings in the 7 area. The dancers perform a 3 song set on stage and circulate the room or hang with regular customers. The stage shows were only OK-- the pole is short (obviously in a single story building) so acrobatic stage performances were limited. I was surprised that more customers did not tip the stage performers. I tipped most of the dancers and they were appreciative and happy to chat.

I was propositioned for VIP dances by several of the dancers. Most of the dancers were willing to negotiate on price and they were also willing to discuss extras. I get the impression that you can have a lot of VIP fun for $100 or so -- at least for afternoon visits. So for those familiar with the Detroit strip club scene, Toy Chest is a good value and its worth an afternoon visit especially if some of the lower end clubs (e.g., Bogart's Henry VII) are a bit too seedy and if you've experienced some of the aloof, over priced dancers at some of the higher end clubs (e.g., Penthouse).
