Stopped into the Gold Club a few nights ago. Even though I live in Memphis, I hadn't visited a local club in a while. Things have definitely changed. If you you're familiar at all with the way clubs used to work in Memphis, you're going to be very disappointed. That said, I've been told that The Gold Club is still about the best you're going to find in Memphis, along with The Pony. You won't have a bad experience by any means. It's still a good time. The club is reasonably clean, all things considered, and most of the girls are friendly. I only ran into a handful that were a bit pushy. Their looks on the night I visited ranged from 4-8. Nobody really stood out to me personally, but there weren't any true dogs either. Most were reasonably attractive, and there was a good mix too (mostly white with some black). Most other clubs in Memphis are very thuggish, especially anything on Brooks Rd. Avoid those at all costs unless you want to be featured on the 10 o'clock news for being involved in some kind of gang shooting or stabbing. Drinks at the GC were a bit high, but nothing out of the ordinary for a strip club. And, for the right price a few extras can be negotiated in the VIP. Don't expect anything spectacular though. New local laws have killed off most of the clubs around Memphis, and slowly, year-by-year, they will probably kill more of them. Politicians just don't want to encourage commerce or tourism in Memphis anymore, I guess! I suppose I should just be thankful that a place like the GC still exists here, although it's still a bit disappointing and somewhat lame compared to a few years ago. If you have the time, you'll probably be more satisfied making a road trip to Nashville.
