4-Play has been known for beauty queens, air dances, and upscale clientele. Here is what I experienced in a prime-time visit Saturday night. The air dances are meant to be air dances. They are not lap dances, but "table dances" with no contact. They are the only nude dances available at the club, and they cost $20 per song. The girls are strict about the no contact policy. The laps, on the other hand, are topless not nude. They are offered only in sets of 5. The 5 dances cost $150 on a couch and $200 on a "bed." The mileage is very low compared to an average Southern California lap, let alone a VIP set of laps. They call them VIP, but there aren't any non-VIP laps. You cannot try a dancer for one lap and then decide to go for a VIP. Given the low mileage, I wonder if this policy is an intentional business model. The biggest surprise for me was the quality of the dancers. Unless this night was WAY off, the club must have gone down significantly in this department. I saw many older dancers and many others that are average looking. I struggled to find a dancer that I would rate an 8. In my previous visits, the average girl was about the same as the best girl this time. The number of dancers has gone up, about two dozen girls this time compared to about a dozen last time (also a Saturday night), but the quality has gone markedly down, not only on average, but also for the upper tier. The stage was more elevated than it was last time, a bit too high in my opinion. A foot lower would make it more intimate. In their stage sets (which were two songs before 10:00 PM and one song after), 4 girls including 2 orientals didn't even bother take off their bottoms, and a couple of other girls just flashed the goodies at the end of the set. Finally, the clientele is indeed upscale, the club is elegant, and the staff is friendly and polished. The place seems to aspire for high roller types, and it may well deliver the illusion, but lacks the substance. The club was crowded, so they seem to be doing good business, but I didn't see too many people going upstairs for the VIPs.
