Being a fan of the old...
Being a fan of the old French Maid I decided it was time to check out the Boudoir Rouge. I stopped by around 12ish on a Friday night. There was a short line-up but there's heaters outside so you wait in comfort despite the cold Calgary weather. The first thing I noticed was the assortment of old time "boudoir" photos they had on the walls, like they had at the old French Maid, but that's where the similarities ended. I turned the corner and it was like I walked into a rave. With all the lasers, strobes, pounding music and smoke I couldn't even figure out where the stage was at first. From what I could see, there was two main stages for the nude dancers, and an assortment of smaller ones for the non-nude gogo dancers.
What first struck me as odd was that the bar was surrounding one of the stages. If you have ever been to a strip club in Alberta you know about the loonie game style tipping. So in this case the loonies were being tossed at the dancers but OVER TOP of the bartenders heads!
The lasers were disorienting so I grabbed a seat at the bar. There was a solid 7 on stage with a cute bum, but she looked bored. There was high energy dance music playing but she was mostly lying on her blanket. She came around for playtime, it was a shame the music was too loud to chat. Not wanting to hit a bartender, I opted for a rolled up $10 instead of some loonies but it didn't make it across the moat, I had to call the bartender over to put it on stage for her. She tossed me a magnet, it also fell in the moat but I didn't feel like bothering the already busy bartender again.
I had almost enough of the pounding music so I decided to check out the second stage before a migraine set in. I should have just left cause I can never un-see what I saw. On a side stage, there was a FULLY NUDE MALE dancer, penis flapping away. I was in such shock I kept staring at it, as if to make sure the lasers were not tricking my eyes. But it was real, and I still cannot believe what I saw. I understand the French Maid folks want to provide an environment that appeals to both sexes, but how does it make sense to have both male and female dancers dancing across from each other? In my experience, men that want dances from women tend to be less horny when there's a naked man gyrating a feet away.
Needless to say I left right away and I will not be revisiting the Boudoir Rouge. Maybe I'm not "modern" enough but a coed stripclub is not my cup of tea.
