I visited here after a long, two-year break. the club has improved dramatically in that time, they now have about 10 dancers on night shift, previously the club boasted 3-4...one annoyance remains: the club charges a $5 fee that the Texas legislature imposed a few years ago, that was subsequently ruled illegal by the Courts; every other local club stopped collecting this fee, Showgirl continues to charge, perhaps they are scared that the City Council will take punitive action? I say that, because Showgirl received a favorable Zoning ruling 25 years ago, perhaps management fears they may be forced to relocate if they don't go along with the fee?
fee issues aside, the club has renovated, they no longer employ jukeboxes to spurt out mostly bad country music, they have an actual DJ, and the music is varied....2 stages are utilized, you were lucky to get a single stage just 2 years ago. the dancer mix is roughly 50% black, 50% white, which is unusual, given that the vibe of the club remains old, country, and white...the dancers have mileage on them, but are mostly friendly, and a nice change from the cookie-cutter dancers at most clubs. drink prices are modest, but the occasional dancer drink hustle exists, although the annoying ritual of dancers combing the club for tips following stage dances has largely dissipated...word of caution: this club is enjoyable on a Friday night, and most of a Saturday...but if you go any other time, there is almost nobody there, customers and dancers alike, and you can expect to sit 20 minutes or longer between dancers
